What it does

Who doesn’t like deals, especially in declining economic times like these? DealQUE (pronounced ‘cue’) specializes in finding the best deals the internets have to offer. Almost. DealQUE is part bargaining hunting and part social network. It works through its community of users who submit deals they find and share it with the community at large. Each submitted deal is given a rating and placed on cue, depending on how it scores. The best and hottest deals get front page listing. You don’t have to join to find the deals. Simply browse the home page and click on the deals that appeal to you the most. There are also giveaways and integration tools to integrate DealQUE with your own website. Start shopping.

In their own words

“DealQUE [ ?CUE? ] is a social bargain hunting website and daily deal aggregator gathering the best deals on the web.

Our mission is to bring you the best deals on the internet, and we do this by allowing our users to share deals they find. DealQUE.com allows users to post deals as well as browse a variety of products. We have teamed up with PriceGrabber.com to bring you great comparison features (coming really soon!), which will ensure that you get the best prices on the products you want.”

Why it might be a killer

DealQUE is a good place to find deals, or submit your own deals. Its format allows users to vote and rank the most popular deals, allowing for the hottest deals to rise to the top. Shoppers, and especially bargain hunters will love DealQUE.

Some questions

Can DealQUE compete with the bevy of other similar sites out there? Will users like the idea of finding their own deals and having to submit them? And will the popular deals really be the best deals?

Gwap.com - Help Make Computers Smarter

May 15, 2008 Author: KillerStartups.com - all | Filed under: KillerStartups

What it does

Google ‘Gwap’ and you may get some interesting urban slang results or an exercise in ESP brought to you by the lovely folks at Carnegie Mellon. Gwap—the Carnegie Mellon version, that is -- stands for Games with a Purpose, and is part research, part fun. It works like this: you choose a game (so far there are five), say ‘Matchin’ and you and a fellow internet surfer like yourself will be introduced to a pair of images. You and your new gaming buddy choose which picture is better and you’ve both got to agree. The catch? You can’t talk to each other. This game, although seemingly just for fun and giggles, garners a lot of useful data which can then be used to improve search, security, or simply problem solving. Humans, for instance, can still solve many problems that computers haven’t yet figured out Gwap may help bridge that gap. So give it a try, play and help science while you’re at it.

In their own words

“When you play a game at Gwap, you aren't just having fun. You're helping the world become a better place. By playing our games, you're training computers to solve problems for humans all over the world.”

Why it might be a killer

Gwap is an incredibly innovative and impressive feat. By using fun and games to help compute useful bits of data, Gwap manages to bring an idea into fruition and use real people from all over be part of the experiment.

Allsearchbox.com - All Search Engines in One

May 15, 2008 Author: KillerStartups.com - all | Filed under: KillerStartups

What it does

There are a number of search engine aggregator sites being developed at the moment and one such site is Allsearchbox which allows you to search all of the major engines from one page. Simply enter the search term you are looking for and then click on the nicely designed thumbnail of the engine you’d like to use which include: Google, Yahoo, MSN, altavista, aeiou, Sapo, Alexa, Ask, A9, exolead, accoona, Maholo, excite, snap, uolBusco, and Lycos. The search engine in question will then quickly boot up with your results. The site also allows you to further fine-tune your search by category, such as: News, Videos, Images, Music, Knowledge, Utilities and more. This is very similar in function to recently reviewed Atunn but lacking in the sleak graphic design of that site.

In their own words

“All Search Box is a simple way of indexing things across the internet. Hope you can find this usefull.”

Why it might be a killer

Allowing people to search all major engines from one site is a major improvement to searching with only one engine. This could become a popular site especially if they continue adding more search engine options.

Some questions

The ideal search aggregation site would allow you to enter a term and then automatically give you the best result without requiring that you first select the search engine. As it stands right now, most people will probably select to search through Google anyway. Also lacking on this site are YouTube searches and eBay as well.

BusinessesForSaleRSS.com - Search For Busineses

May 15, 2008 Author: KillerStartups.com - all | Filed under: KillerStartups

What it does

The housing crunch/credit meltdown has made it a nightmare for sellers, but a boon for buyers, particularly those looking for commercial space or businesses. Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to find those killer deals and juicy listings, which is why the new startup BusinessesForSaleRSS wants to do it for you. BusinessesForSaleRSS, although a mouthful, is to the point—it’s a vertical search engine that does what the title says, that is, find businesses for sale. Searching is easy. Simply enter your query into the search bar and hit search. You can specify by category, browse Top Searches, Popular Searches, and Recent Searches, or search from the tag cloud of keywords. A list of results pops up from nationwide. Click on the business of interest to see the asking price and revenues.

In their own words

“BusinessesforsaleRSS.com, created by the Listopica, Inc. Research and Development team, is a vertical search engine for the business for sale industry...and we're building the largest database of businesses for sale in the universe.”

Why it might be a killer

BusinessesForSaleRSS certainly is a niche market, but it’s a useful tool for those wanting to get in on the real estate market while the buying’s good. It offers plenty of search options and is fairly comprehensive.

Some questions

Will BusinessesForSaleRSS be successful? Will it reach its target audience? What’s the business model behind it?

Knewsroom.com - Community Driven Newsroom

May 15, 2008 Author: KillerStartups.com - all | Filed under: KillerStartups

What it does

Knewsroom, from Kluster is a community driven news publication that recently went live. Community driven news has become increasingly popular on the web with services like Digg leading the way. Knewsroom takes this concept a step further by having users submit their own original stories to the site where they are voted on, and if they make the top five in their category, they are posted in the next day’s Knewspaper. Users are provided with a cash incentive for submitting material, to the amount of 20% of all advertising revenue generated from their submission. The Knewspaper contains news in the following categories: Politics, Business, Technology, Design, Sports and Entertainment.

In their own words

“Knewsroom™ is a community-directed news publication where not only do you have a voice—you get paid to use it. “The Knews” gets published every morning, featuring the previous day’s top stories in Politics, Business, Technology, Design, Sports, and Entertainment.”

Why it might be a killer

This is a simple but powerful concept that could eventually change the way people get their news and what they read. This newsroom community allows anyone to submit but only the best submissions will be rewarded as judged by their peers.

Some questions

This is without a doubt a unique idea that should do very well. Have they considered providing a bio section of the top writers so that the best writers can receive even further exposure? The year’s best writer could be featured or even provided with some sort of internship at a major publication company.

WujWuj.com - Design A Celebration, Gifts and All

May 15, 2008 Author: KillerStartups.com - all | Filed under: KillerStartups

What it does

WujWuj—the name doesn’t tell you anything about what this site does, but it does stick in your mind. WujWuj is actually a wishlist/event site, with a difference. To get started, you’ll first need to create an occasion, such as a birthday or anniversary; after which you can upload photos and videos and add descriptions . Next, you’ll need to add gifts from Amazon.com. Finally, invite friends and families. Each person decides what to buy and WujWuj will buy it and ship it for them. Or you can have family and friends make donations towards the gifts, and once enough cash is collected, WujWuj will again buy and send the gifts. If you don’t collect enough money, you’ll get a check for the leftover amount after all the gifts that can be bought are bought. The site also features a reminder service.

In their own words

“WujWuj.com is the true pioneer of its category, revolutionizing registries and wishlists. It's not just creating an occasion but bringing family and friends together to collaborate, leave messages, upload photos and make contributions. Unlike other registries, WujWuj.com purchases the gifts and then ships them to the designated destination.”

Why it might be a killer

WujWuj is innovative. It’s not like your standard wishlist or event site. It’s practical in the sense that invitees send in donations which go towards the gifts. This makes it easier to get the funds needed and to ensure that there’s no double gifting. Also, it makes organizing the event easier, as everything can be taken care of from this one site.

Some questions

Is there a way for users to select and buy gifts that are not on the list? Is there a minimum donation amount? Are invitations customizable?

Scoutle.com - Social Networking to Share Your Sites

May 15, 2008 Author: KillerStartups.com - all | Filed under: KillerStartups

What it does

Scoutle is a social network based on connecting users based on their registered profile of personal websites and blogs. This social networking system runs on the concept of Automated Social Networking, or letting the site do the friend searching for users. Once users create their profile, Scoutle does the “walking” for them, scouting other users will similar qualities. Scoutle searches through other registered to find compatible users, thus connecting users who will potentially visit each other’s websites. Users have the potential to not only increase the traffic to their website, but also filter the surfers to only potentially interested visitors.

In their own words

“Scoutle is a new form of social networking we refer to as Automated Social Networking. You do not have to do anything, nor do you have to know each other and there is no need of communication in order to connect, on the contrary. Automated Social Networking is all about networking without all that. It is a way of building a network of your own choice with no real-life obligations.”

Why it might be a killer

Scoutle is a great tool for promoting and increasing quality traffic to users’ personal websites. Users’ effort is minimized, while the potential connections made is maximized. In order to be a successful network, there must be a sufficient number of users registered with the site.

Some questions

What markets should be targeted to use this system versus other social networks? How is Scoutle differentiated from other social networks? How can this differentiation be conveyed to the targeted users?
