Video: Watchmen trailer

Jul 17, 2008 Author: Peter Ha | Filed under: CrunchGear

Looks like everything from the original graphic novel will stay intact for the movie adaption. This is going to be legendary. Too bad we’ll have to wait until 09, but that’s OK. Plenty of nerdtastic comic book/graphic novel related movies coming out this year to hold us over.

E3 2008: Mega Man 9 trailer - yes, it’s awesome

Jul 17, 2008 Author: Devin Coldewey | Filed under: CrunchGear

Oh yeah, baby. I’m going to beat this mother in one sitting no matter what. I’m really glad they went back to about the Mega Man 2 era in terms of skills and enemies since that’s the era I rock. I’m going to play some Mega Man tonight with “Eye of the Tiger” on in the background to get ready for this.

Old timey Lego record player

Well garsh durnit if this boy didn’t make himself a grammyfone out of a bunch of Legos and a cup. In my day, we used to just rub an old flour can against record and it would play loud and clear enough for all of us to dance at the hootenanny. What will these kids think of next?

RFID services moving closer into the retailing mainstream

Jul 17, 2008 Author: Brian Krepshaw | Filed under: CrunchGear

The EU-funded SMART project is looking to finalize the technological hurdles that have hindered the widespread acceptance of the data containing tags. Utilizing radio waves, the information can be shared at a distance.

The efficiency to the supply chain has enough potential to keep retailers, wholesalers and distributors using the system – but at arms length. Currently RFID tags are mainly used for palette tracking. While the business and technological hurdles are being addressed, issues of privacy are also at stake.

In October, RFID tags will start to make their way on to actual packaging as the SMART Project starts testing the ability to monitor stock levels and monitor promoted goods. Phase II of their testing commences in the first half of 2009 as they test an automatic discounting system for meat nearing an expiration date.

Shocking iPods surface again, along with shock mice, shock USB drives

Jul 17, 2008 Author: Devin Coldewey | Filed under: CrunchGear

I love finding stuff like this in Chinatown. Here in Seattle I found two awesome dart guns that fired those little orange darts like 30 feet. Amazing. And Geeksugar has located a collection of prank shock-gadgets — joy buzzers for this modern age. And here I thought this was a shock mouse!

There’s an iPod version too, and if it looks familiar, that’s because you saw me and my friends acting like fools and shocking ourselves a few months back.

Germaphobes no longer have to be afraid of the phone

Jul 17, 2008 Author: Brian Krepshaw | Filed under: CrunchGear

Howard Hughes would not have stood in line with all the other plebeians to get an iPhone 3G as he would have been too afraid of catching some murky disease. He would of however, sent one of his minions out to get one, and then, of course, have it sterilized. The next step would have been for the famous germaphobe tycoon to pick out a case for his rapidly-getting-infected phone. I think I know exactly the model he would have wanted.

This Antimicrobial case from Case-mate would have been just the thing for the man who picked everything up with tissues. Dubbed Second Skin this case for the paranoid comes with 3 Interchangeable Accents (Red, Blue & Pink), a Screen Protector and (of course) a Micro Fiber Screen Cleaning Cloth. Lest you think this is a new thing, Motorola marketed an antimicrobial phone a few years back.

The effect of the overuse of antimicrobial agents is open for debate. Howard Hughes’ worst fears could be realized as microorganisms continue to build up a resistance eventually turning into strange new monsters. I, for one, imagine (and hope for) a future where we would all have to barricade ourselves in Las Vegas hotel rooms.

Here’s the quick rundown on this 20+ minute video.

Rock Band guitars and drums will be compatible with GH:WT. Brand new guitar with a dedicated Star Power button. Longer strum bar. Slider bar on the neck that’s touch sensitive: tap strum and a wah-wah effect. Non-Guitar Hero guitars can be played up on the frets without actually strumming. Drums are precise and allows real drummers to just close their eyes and smack away. The drum heads have a thicker layer of silicon to reduce noise, but give a bit of feedback for rolls. A y-splitter let’s you play with two kick drums. MIDI in-jack allows for real drum kits or beat boxes or whatever else. Logitech microphone that’s wired to reduce latency. Travis Barker says the ease of use on the drums is great for right or left handed drummers and it’s super realistic. There’s also a live performance by the Neversoft team.

E3 2008: Bioshock teaser trailer for PS3 [Update]

Jul 17, 2008 Author: Peter Ha | Filed under: CrunchGear

This one is for the PS3 fanboys. We really do love you guys.

Update: It appears that the few minutes I missed at the beginning of my 2K briefing regarding Bioshock was about the PS3 version. Looks like “Challenge Rooms” are exclusive to the Sony platform. Lame. But cool for PS3 owners.
